Our Story
Mountain Beauty is a vegan plant-based cold-pressed soap maker located outside Almonte ON. Soaps & more are made with organic & fairtrade oils, infused with plants grown on the Mountain Beauty Farm, harvested in the woods, or repurposed items like coffee grounds.
Owner of Mountain Beauty with assistant Meeko, a Finnish Spitz, walking on Bellamy Mills rd. Meeko will help harvest in the fields or woods for plants like Chaga, Queen Anne’s Lace, or Pine resin.
Mountain Beauty’s other assistants, Couscous & Angeline, who are Chinese Swan Geese. The pair often monitor the workshop, help in the gardens & have a lot to say when work isn’t done.
Mountain Beauty can date its roots back to growing up on the very same farm now it’s based at & working at the neighbour’s maple sugar shack, the Stewart’s Sugar Bush. Collecting sap with buckets & a team of Belgian workhorses on a sleigh, the owner of Mountain Beauty was immersed in maple syrup. Having experienced the sweet life of maple & discovering that sugar sand - the leftover grit product of boiling sap into maple syrup is something that is normally discarded, & just how it can act as a natural scrub. Sugar sand being an environmentally safe alternative to clay, was the inspiration to start the Mountain Beauty business, as all the Mountain Beauty soaps contain maple syrup! There are several products like the Mostly Maple, or the Mini Hearts Bath Bombs that contain sugar sand.
Mountain Beauty commits to local as much as possible, by growing the plants used in the soaps, or harvesting plants in the woods. As well as being organic & fairtrade in choice of oils, like olive oil, sunflower oil, coconut oil & shea butter.
It is also imperative to note that the products are as natural as possible. There is absolutely no nasty items like - palm oil, mica, artificial scents or colour additives or titanium dioxide to be found ever in the soaps.
The Mountain Beauty Farm is located on Bellamy Mills rd, in a farmhouse from the 1860s & a barn even older. The maker is Finnish-Canadian & finds inspiration from indigenous plants, to Finnish smells & even to the ancient world of the Greek Gods.
Mountain Beauty is commited to exploring new ways to do things & work with what is at hand as much as possible. Keeping things natural, organic, & just plain healthy! Plus in case you are still curious, the name Mountain, is the owners last name.
